POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Service Manager and Shop Foreman, the Apprentice Truck and Transport Technician will be required

to perform diagnostics and repairs on heavy-duty trucks and in all areas of on-highway vehicles (including both towed and self-propelled). The current Grande Prairie facility operating hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5.30 pm Technicians may/will be required to work shift work, evenings, and weekends.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, overhaul, and repair of various components of a variety of heavy-duty trucks equipped with diesel engines and automatic or manual transmissions.
  • Requisition parts, materials and equipment as needed.
  • Complete detailed, clear, and concise work order service reports.
  • Maintain order, cleanliness, work output and safe working conditions in individual and shared workspaces
  • Comply with Company Health & Safety Program, Occupational Health & Safety Legislation and any other municipal, provincial, or federal legislation as it applies to this dealership.
  • Communicate with the Service Manager, Shop Foreman immediately if additional work is needed, if the work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Communicate with the parts department efficiently to obtain needed parts. Know all the required parts that will be needed to complete the job assigned. Work with the parts department and their staff to best serve the customer.
  • Road test vehicles when required (if licensed) or refer to the designated test technician.
  • Participate in company and manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
  • Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to the Shop Foreman.
  • Keeps shop area neat, clean, and safe. Reports any safety concerns to the Shop Foreman immediately.
  • Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, provincial, and local regulations, such as

hazardous waste disposal, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a valid HET Alberta Apprenticeship Certificate or Journeyman certificate

  • Must have own tools. Experience with Class 6- 8 trucks is considered an asset.
  • Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license, Class 3 with a Q endorsement would be considered an asset.
  • Strong ability to understand and effectively use computer equipment including laptops for diagnostics Heavy Duty Trucks. An understanding and experience with Premium Tech Tool would be considered an asset.
  • Must be able to work in a high-pressure environment safely.
  • Ability to follow the direction of a direct supervisor.
  • Must work well with others and be able to adjust to multiple settings and personalities.
  • Proficient in planning workload in a time-efficient manner.
  • Must be able to present yourself in a positive, professional manner to colleagues and customers.

This is a front-line position answering directly to the Parts Manager. The Parts Technician works with external and internal customers to select the parts required to successfully fulfill the customer’s needs. All dealings with customers are done with respect and integrity with a firm understanding of building and maintaining long-term learning relationships. This position expects you to always provide exceptional customer service through active listening and sound parts knowledge.

This is a permanent full time position that may include afternoon, evening, and Saturday shifts as well as after-hours phone call outs.
